THE inaugural Hunter Knit-in at Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery went off yesterday without a dropped stitch.
More than 100 knitters from the region joined thousands nationally to knit squares in plain stitch and sew them into wraps. The event was held in partnership with Wrap with Love Inc, a voluntary organisation started in 1992 by Sydney woman, Sonia Gidley-King. Described as "preventative medicine", the wraps aim to provide life-saving warmth to victims of natural disaster, war and poverty.Gallery director Debbie Abraham said the response to the knit-in was fantastic, with people lining up at the door to get in and a shortage of chairs. We will hold the event again next year."
